Asbestos Testing Laboratories in Canterbury, New Zealand
Accredited labs that analyse asbestos samples.
Laboratories testing samples from Canterbury for asbestos must be accredited by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) or NATA, or hold a temporary WorkSafe approval.
WorkSafe can approve a laboratory for up to 12 months while it goes through IANZ or NATA accreditation, and lists approved labs on its Approved Laboratory Register. Accreditation scopes include, for example, AS 4964:2004 for identifying asbestos in bulk samples.
Any building in Canterbury built or renovated before 2000 could contain asbestos. Importing asbestos-containing products into New Zealand has been illegal since 2016.
Check that the laboratory's accreditation covers the test you need before sending samples.
