Equipment Suppliers in Queensland, Australia

Suppliers of asbestos removal equipment and PPE.

Asbestos removal and management work requires specialised equipment to protect workers and prevent fibre release. Key equipment includes HEPA-filtered vacuums and negative air units, personal protective equipment (P2/P3 respirators, disposable coveralls), decontamination enclosures, polyethylene sheeting for containment, and approved asbestos waste bags and labels. This directory lists equipment suppliers servicing the asbestos industry across Australia.

The standard two tiers apply. Class A covers friable asbestos, Class B covers more than 10 square metres of non-friable. Both licences last five years and are issued to the PCBU (person conducting a business or undertaking), not to individuals. Work in Queensland is regulated by WHSQ - Asbestos.

Check products meet AS/NZS standards and that the supplier can provide test certificates for HEPA filters and fit-testing support for respiratory equipment. Ask whether they stock consumables like disposal bags and 200-micron sheeting.

For more information, see WHSQ - Asbestos.

Frequently Asked Questions

What standards should asbestos equipment meet in Queensland?
Respiratory protection, HEPA vacuums, disposal bags and 200 micron sheeting should meet the relevant AS/NZS standards, which apply in Queensland and across Australia. Ask the supplier for test certificates for HEPA filters and fit-testing support for respirators. WHSQ sets out the control measures these products support.
What PPE is required for asbestos removal work?
The minimum is a P2 half-face respirator (P3 for friable work), disposable coveralls with a hood, disposable gloves, and safety footwear that can be decontaminated or covered with disposable boot covers. Friable asbestos removal normally requires a full-face powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) with P3 filters. All respiratory equipment has to be fit-tested and maintained per AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716.
What containment equipment is used during asbestos removal?
It depends on the job. A typical setup includes 200-micron polyethylene sheeting for building enclosures, negative air units with HEPA filters to keep the enclosure under negative pressure, labelled asbestos waste bags, duct tape and spray adhesive for sealing joints, and a HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner for final cleanup. For smaller jobs like removing pipe lagging, glove bags are common.
Where can I buy asbestos removal equipment in Australia and New Zealand?
Safety and environmental supply companies are the main source. Look for ones that stock AS/NZS-rated respirators, HEPA-filtered negative air units, and compliant waste bags. Some general safety distributors carry asbestos-specific lines too. Make sure the supplier can provide test certificates for HEPA filters and that their respiratory products come with fit-testing support.
