Australian Asbestos Testing Laboratories

Last updated June 2026

Asbestos testing laboratories analyse bulk material and air samples to work out whether asbestos is present, what type it is, and how much. The Safe Work Australia Code of Practice recommends having that analysis done by a NATA-accredited laboratory, which means its methods meet the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.

This page lists testing laboratories operating across Australia. Each listing notes the lab's accreditation status, what it can test for (bulk identification, fibre counting, soil analysis), and turnaround times where we have them.

Methodology

These laboratories come from the Asbestos List directory and are reviewed before they go live. Counts and state figures refresh on their own whenever a new lab is approved.

Accreditation is as reported by each laboratory at listing. You can check a lab's current NATA scope on the NATA register before sending samples.
