How to Create a Google Business Profile
A Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is what makes your business appear on Google Maps and in the local results that show up when someone searches "asbestos removal near me". It's free, and for a local services business it is one of the highest-value listings you can own. This guide covers creating or claiming your profile, linking it to your Asbestos List listing so your Google rating appears there, and using reviews to stand out.
Step 1: Check whether a profile already exists
Google often auto-creates an unmanaged profile for businesses it knows about. Search for your business name on Google Maps. If it appears, you'll claim the existing profile in Step 2. If nothing shows up, you'll create a new one.
Step 2: Create or claim the profile
- Go to business.google.com and sign in with the Google account you want to manage the profile from.
- Enter your business name. If Google finds an existing profile, select it to claim it; otherwise choose to create a new one.
- Choose a business category such as "Asbestos testing service" or "Environmental consultant".
- Add your service area or address. Most asbestos contractors are service-area businesses — you can list the regions you cover instead of a shopfront address.
- Add your phone number and website.
Step 3: Verify your business
Google requires verification before your profile goes live — usually by postcard, phone, email, or video. Verification can take a few days. You can keep editing your profile while you wait, but it won't appear publicly until verified.
Step 4: Connect it to your Asbestos List listing
Asbestos List can link directly to your Google Business Profile and display your live Google rating and review count on your listing. To set it up:
- Go to your listing editor in the Asbestos List dashboard.
- Find the Google Business Profile section and search for your business by name.
- Select the matching result to link it. Your Google star rating and review count will then show on your listing.
How to stand out
- Add photos. Profiles with photos of your team, vehicles, and completed work get far more clicks than those without.
- Ask every happy client for a review. Google reviews are the single biggest driver of local ranking and trust. A simple follow-up message with your review link works best.
- Respond to every review. Thank positive reviewers and address negative ones calmly and professionally — prospects read your responses closely.
- Keep details accurate. Matching hours, phone number, and service areas across Google and Asbestos List reinforces trust and local search ranking.
