Waste Disposal Facilities in Australian Capital Territory, Australia
Licensed facilities that accept and process asbestos waste.
Canberra's asbestos disposal runs through Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre. Commercial loads are accepted only there, by appointment, with an Asbestos Disposal Form lodged with Remondis two days before delivery. The yard takes asbestos 7:30 am to 12:30 pm on weekdays.
Since 1 July 2026, the free domestic allowance has been 60 kg, accepted at Mugga Lane or Mitchell in packages of up to 20 kg. Domestic loads of 60 to 250 kg need a Remondis booking and go to Mugga Lane only.
Removal work itself is regulated by WorkSafe ACT, and licensed removalists usually arrange disposal as part of the job.
Asbestos has been banned across Australia since 31 December 2003. Homes in the ACT built or renovated before 1990 are the most likely to contain it.
Call ahead to confirm the facility accepts your type and amount of asbestos, and check its fees, booking and packaging rules.
