Waste Disposal Facilities in Northern Territory, Australia
Licensed facilities that accept and process asbestos waste.
Disposal in the NT is limited to designated sites. Approval is needed before booking at Darwin's Shoal Bay facility, and waste must be double-wrapped in 200-micron polythene, sealed and labelled.
Waste from commercial asbestos removal must be transported by a holder of an NT EPA licence.
Removal work itself is regulated by NT WorkSafe, and licensed removalists usually arrange disposal as part of the job.
Asbestos has been banned across Australia since 31 December 2003. Homes in the Northern Territory built or renovated before 1990 are the most likely to contain it.
Call ahead to confirm the facility accepts your type and amount of asbestos, and check its fees, booking and packaging rules.
