Waste Disposal Facilities in Tasmania, Australia
Licensed facilities that accept and process asbestos waste.
In Tasmania, asbestos is a controlled waste (code N220). It must be contained, labelled and taken to a site authorised to accept it.
Controlled waste has to be carried by a transporter registered with the EPA Tasmania for that waste type, so check a carrier's registration covers asbestos. Confirm with the landfill that it takes asbestos before you go.
Removal work itself is regulated by WorkSafe Tasmania, and licensed removalists usually arrange disposal as part of the job.
Asbestos has been banned across Australia since 31 December 2003. Homes in Tasmania built or renovated before 1990 are the most likely to contain it.
Call ahead to confirm the facility accepts your type and amount of asbestos, and check its fees, booking and packaging rules.
