NATA Accredited Asbestos Laboratories in Australia
Last updated June 2026In Australia, NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accreditation is the main mark of laboratory competence. To get it, an asbestos lab is independently assessed against the ISO/IEC 17025 standard, which checks that its testing methods, equipment calibration, and quality systems meet international requirements for accuracy.
The Safe Work Australia Code of Practice for the Management and Control of Asbestos in Workplaces recommends that all sample analysis be done by a NATA-accredited lab. This page lists labs that currently hold NATA accreditation for asbestos testing, including polarised light microscopy (PLM) for bulk identification, phase contrast microscopy (PCM) for fibre counting, and electron microscopy (SEM/TEM) for more detailed analysis.
