Waste Disposal Facilities in Queensland, Australia
Licensed facilities that accept and process asbestos waste.
Asbestos must be disposed of at a facility licensed to receive it. Transporting more than 175 kg needs an environmental authority (ERA 57). Commercial operators must complete waste tracking for any quantity, and homeowners once a load exceeds 250 kg.
Bonded asbestos that is lawfully managed and not mixed with other waste is exempt from the Queensland waste levy, though the landfill can still charge its gate fee. Bonded asbestos mixed with other waste attracts the regulated-waste levy rate.
Removal work itself is regulated by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ), and licensed removalists usually arrange disposal as part of the job.
Asbestos has been banned across Australia since 31 December 2003. Homes in Queensland built or renovated before 1990 are the most likely to contain it.
Call ahead to confirm the facility accepts your type and amount of asbestos, and check its fees, booking and packaging rules.
